Berlin Currywurst Information

If you're in New York and craving a quick yet satisfying bite that brings a taste of Berlin straight to your plate, Berlin Currywurst is the place to be. Located at 75 9th Ave, this casual eatery is a hidden gem that stands out for its unique focus on a beloved German street food: currywurst. Whether you're new to this dish or already a fan, Berlin Currywurst delivers an authentic and flavorful experience that's hard to match.

The star of the show, of course, is the currywurst itself. A perfectly grilled bratwurst sausage is sliced into hearty chunks, drenched in a rich, spicy curry ketchup, and served alongside crispy fries. It's the kind of meal that’s simple yet undeniably satisfying. The balance of flavors in the curry ketchup is spot on, with just enough heat to make it interesting, but not overwhelming. For those who like to customize their heat level, the restaurant offers a variety of sauces, from mild to extra spicy, ensuring everyone can find their perfect match.

But the menu doesn't stop at just currywurst. While that might be the dish that defines this spot, there are other options that round out the experience. You’ll find a selection of hearty sides, including potato salad and sauerkraut, that complement the main event wonderfully. The fries are particularly noteworthy - thin, golden, and crispy, they make the perfect sidekick to the currywurst, especially when dipped into the sauces.

What makes Berlin Currywurst even more enjoyable is the atmosphere. With a modern yet cozy vibe, the space is small but welcoming, offering a quick and casual dining experience. Whether you're grabbing lunch to go or hanging out with friends, the ambiance is always laid-back. The staff is friendly and efficient, making sure your food comes out quickly so you can get back to your busy day without missing a beat.

Located in the heart of Chelsea, this spot adds a bit of international flavor to the local food scene, and it’s clear from the customer reviews that it’s become a go-to for both locals and tourists. The restaurant has earned praise not only for its quality food but also for its consistency and attention to detail. The owners take pride in serving up a dish that has deep roots in German tradition while tailoring it to the tastes of the city’s diverse crowd.

So, whether you're a currywurst enthusiast or just looking to try something different, Berlin Currywurst offers a unique, flavorful experience that’s perfect for any casual meal. It’s a great spot to enjoy a hearty meal without breaking the bank, and it’s bound to leave you coming back for more.

What People's Say About Place

This spot serves authentic Berlin-style street food right in New York. The Knackwurst sausage is crispy on the outside and juicy inside, topped with a rich house-made tomato curry sauce and fragrant curry powder—classic German street food done right. Simple yet addictive, the balance of spices and savory sausage flavor keeps you coming back for more. Enjoying a hot sausage served on a paper tray in the industrial atmosphere of Chelsea Market feels like a perfect blend of New York and Berlin!

Berlin Currywurst is an absolute must if you come to Chelsea Market!! We ordered a nurnberger on a bun with sauerkraut and onion, fries, a lager, and a UFO white beer. Everything was amazing! The guys here are cranking out quality food, taking care of customers, and crafting an authentic German street food experience. Glad we stopped here first, and we’ll be back to try their other sausages

We always get the vegetarian currywurst and it’s amazing. The sausage is great, the sauce even better. The bread is perfect for soaking up the sauce. The service is always great. Reliably good, never had a bad experience and we’ve been here probably a dozen times. Consistently great.

I specifically sought out this stand because of its specialty in German fare. I was not disappointed. There were several menu options in addition to the classic currywurst, the fries were good, and the stand has immediate seating next to the counter. The staff were super friendly and went as far as to shoo other diners away from the table that hadn't ordered from their stand as seating is rather tight in that area of Chelsea market. If you're an American fan of currywurst like myself, and happen to be in NYC or the neighborhood, I recommend checking it out!

I was excited to see that they had a vegetarian currywurst here! They have a few different sausage options including a tofu kielbasa. The tofu kielbasa was very good and the ketchup with (lots of) curry powder was a unique taste but worked great. The bread roll was fresh and soaked up the sauce well. It was nothing gourmet but it was definitely tasty. And inexpensive! The staff was nice and my order was ready quickly. There’s some bar seating specifically for Berlin Currywurst and general market seating nearby.

I was here on a busy Saturday, and their service was fast and friendly. I got the tofu kielbasa, which is vegan. I chose to get it currywurst style, which is with ketchup and curry powder, and a piece of bread. I’m not the biggest ketchup fan, so maybe next time I would try it on a bun instead, but the pieces that were covered in curry powder were delicious, and the dish felt like a good portion for its price. It also only took about 2–3 mins between when I ordered and when it was ready, which I appreciated!

We've visited Berlin Currywurst pre-covid last year. Delicious spot for all times of the day. :) This spot is located within Chelsea Market, right around the corner as you enter from the Starbucks side. Yelp isn't attaching my photos for some reason. Listing our items below, sans beer. Nothing like an ice cold beer in the dead of winter with wursts for breakfast. Can't wait to return.

The staff makes you welcome while the food makes you happy. Staff members too were very helpful. This place shows competence from kitchen to dining area. The taste quality was notable. All components worked together perfectly.
